We chose the Golden Spiral as the logo for The Medical Station because it symbolizes balance – the key to good health.
The Medical Station logo, consisting of two interlaced spirals, was inspired by the mathematical concepts of the golden mean and the golden spiral.
The golden mean, also known as the golden ratio, is 1.618. It is the result of a sequence of numbers where the ratio of two adjacent numbers is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two numbers.
The golden spiral is a logarithmic – or growing – spiral, whose growth factor is the golden mean.
The golden spiral is often an inspiration for art and architecture. It is also ubiquitous in the natural world, and can even be found within our own bodies. We see the spiral in the arrangement of sunflower seeds, the formation of a hurricane, the turns of a DNA helix, and in the cochlea of the inner ear.
The golden mean and golden spiral have significant philosophical meaning as well.
They are often thought to represent the desirable middle, or balance, between the two extremes of excess and deficiency. Together, they symbolize the harmonious, happy medium that we all seek to achieve.
